While there is still plenty of summer left, now is a great time to start planning an autumn escape to Smuggler’s Cove Inn. This season is an ideal time for people looking to experience the beauty of Boothbay Harbor and Midcoast Maine. There is no shortage of things to do between September and November, including several fall festivals in nearby Maine towns. To help you plan your fall getaway, keep reading to learn about three memorable events.

1. Family Harvest Fest

Kick off the season with Family Harvest Day at the Boothbay Railway Village Museum in September. Enjoy classic New England activities like pumpkin decorating, hayrides, and lawn games. Of course, no visit to the festival is complete without going for a train ride. There will be several rides offered throughout the day, so be sure to line up early to secure your seat!

2. Fall Foliage Festival

Every October, the museum also puts on the Fall Foliage Festival. The two-day event has been a Midcoast Maine tradition for over five decades. It brings together seasonally-festive food, vendor booths, live music, and more. Found on the four-acre space of the vintage village, this happening is one of the best spots to witness autumn hues.

3. Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta

One of the most anticipated events is the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta, which takes place toward the beginning of October. Take your time wandering downtown to see if you can find all the decorated pumpkins. Enjoy the fall-themed parade before taking part in the pumpkin derby. One event you won’t want t miss is the regatta that features people racing down the river in decorated pumpkins.
