What to Do on a Day Trip to Damariscotta

The riverfront town of Damariscotta is only about a 30-minute drive from our resort. It perfectly represents what a small Maine town is like. There are several things to do that appeal to a wide range of interests. To help give you a headstart on planning your visit, we’ve made a list of some top attractions and activities.

  1. Spend time out on the water with Midcoast Kayak. Open seasonally, this local outfitter offers both rentals and guided tours. These outings include a sunset tour, oyster ecology tour, Muscongus Bay wildlife tour, and more.
  2. Learn about the town’s history at Whaleback Shell Midden State Historic Site. If you’re unfamiliar with it, a midden is a large heap of oyster shells, and some of the ones here are from when the Abenaki lived in the area. While most of this midden has been removed, some of it remains.
  3. One of the most popular things to do in Damariscotta is to go for an excursion with Damariscotta River Cruises. Several tours are offered a week, including an oyster farms cruise and a happy hour sunset cruise.
  4. Treat yourself to a bit of retail therapy. There are several boutiques and shops found here, including ABOCA Beads & Jewelry, Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shop, and Citizen Maine Home.
  5. See what’s happening at the Lincoln Theater. The 1875 venue is a great place to watch a movie, catch a concert, and more. Check the calendar of events to see what’s next on the lineup.
