Our oceanfront resort is just a short drive away from some of the best examples of Mother Nature’s beauty. Most of the nature preserves in this region are part of the Boothbay Region Land Trust. During your next visit, lace up your hiking boots and explore one of these five preserves.

Linekin & Burley Preserve 

The trails at Linekin and Burley Preserve range from moderate to challenging and take you through various terrain, including streams and hardwood forest. The two preserves total 138 acres and over 600 feet of Damariscotta River waterfront.

Lobster Cove Meadow & Appalachee Preserve 

A trail connects the 46.8-acre Lobster Cove Meadow and 25-acre Appalachee Preserve at the south end of the meadow. Both areas are filled with wildlife, and the meadow is adorned with wildflowers from spring through fall. 

Indiantown Island 

At the northern end of Ebenecook Harbor in Sheepscot Harbor is Indiantown Island, a 60-acre island filled with a rich history. BRLT manages the trails on the northern portion of the island, which you can reach by boat. 

Penny Lake 

Keep your eyes open for wildlife at Penny Lake Preserve, like deer, turtles, beavers, and nesting birds. Hike the half-mile loop trail featuring an apple orchard and woodlands. Several other out-and-back paths cross the bridge.

Ocean Point Preserve

Just down the road from Smuggler’s Cove Inn is Ocean Point Preserve. The 15-acre area includes two hiking trails and Tibbetts pond, designated as a wildlife habitat for wading birds and waterfowl. 

When you return to the resort, stop by 727 Ocean Sunset Bar to grab a cocktail and unwind by the fire.
